10:00am – Living History Encampment, Castle and Gardens Open
11:00am – Medieval Fashion - Find out why in the 13th Century you are what you wear!
12 noon - Medieval Tournament: Treason at the Castle? - when the Sheriff of Cumberland’s men visit Greystoke Castle in 1214 they find an army of Scottish soldiers on the castle grounds. Will they suspect the Castellan of Greystoke of plotting treason against King John?
1pm – Squire School - calling all young squires! Join our knights to test your skills and see if you have what it takes.
1:30pm - Arming of the Knight - the tools of war and chivalry are donned as knights show the preparations needed for battle and demonstrate the ruthless nature of knightly combat.
2:00pm - Medieval Music - enjoy lively music from the 13th Century.
3:00pm - Medieval Battle: Barons Rebellion - Robert de Ros, the Sheriff of Cumberland and his army arrive to ensure the Castellan of Greystoke castle pledges allegiance to King John of England. With civil war on the horizon, will Greystoke kneel to the King, or join forces with Scotland against him?
3.30pm - Squire School - calling all young squires! Join our knights to test your skills and see if you have what it takes.
4:00pm – Medieval Court of Justice - see court cases inspired from real accounts and find out what happens when you break the law in the 13th Century!
5:00pm - Living History Encampment Closes
Available across the day:
- Have-a-go-archery on the living history encampment
- Visit the Moody Mare or the Butler’s Pantry for snacks, lunch and refreshments
- Book Afternoon Tea via the Castle website
- Follow one of our signposted walks around the magical castle grounds and lake.
