BlueJam Arts

BlueJam is an innovative community music and arts organisation based in Penrith, Cumbria.

We run a full programme of inclusive creative workshops, training, and professional and community performance activities and events – everything from 121 music lessons, a children’s orchestra and jazz ensembles for young people to jazz training for adults, whole school singing projects, a samba band and live streamed gigs (and most things in between!).

Our specialism is improvisation, which we pursue through jazz workshops and performances, and also use as a discipline to inform the way we deliver the programmes and structure groups. We initiate and collaborate on music, film, performance and digital art-centred work, which we deliver through sessions in the community, in schools and at our Art Space.

We run the following regular groups that members of the community can come and join:

• BJamba 2 - Our 'training' Samba Band - an intergenerational group who love to drum!

• Children's Orchestra - for 8-15 year olds every Saturday (non-trad instruments welcome)

• Young Songwriters - a monthly group for young people who write songs together, sometimes with a jazz twist

• BlueJam Youth Jazz Ensemble

• Folk Group

We also run several one-off or short term projects - music and art centered mainly. The best way to find out how you can take part in these is by following us on social media.

We also host live gigs at the BlueJam Art Space, including electronic/improvised music as part of our BleepJam programme.

Please visit our website to find out more or get in touch - new players and singers always welcome.
