The Wilder Clay Gallery
The Wilder Clay Gallery is owned by Ceramic Design/Maker Gwen Bainbridge and Conservation Photographer Simon Whalley.
Gwen's work
Gwen has been creating her ceramics within Cumbria for over 20 years, being born here. Keen to experiment, the cross pollination of different artistic disciplines has always been at the forefront of her artistic exploration. She creates decorative functional vessels and jewellery in Porcelain.
Her sculptural work often features dogs, particularly sighthounds. But she is also expanding her wildlife sculpture portfolio, to highlight the loss of habitat witnessed within her own lifetime as part of her own heritage. She has extended this in a musical context in the band The Clifford Movement.
Gwen runs regular workshops for all levels of experience, beginners always welcome.
Simon's work
Simon is passionate about local nature and his work seeks to connect everyone with nature, nurturing love, building understanding and a desire to help. He has lived in Cumbria for 35 years. His work features local Red Squirrels, hares, local birds, (including kingfishers), landscapes and some abstract nature images.
Simon sells his work framed, mounted, as cards, or simply for you to mount and frame yourself. There are a selection of framing options.
Simon has also completed 3 photographic books, the Spirit of Hartside (a Study of Hartside), The Spirit of the Line (about the Settle-Carlisle Railway) and Beacon Red featuring red squirrels on the Beacon above Penrith.
So why not come and have a browse and a chat. The gallery is a welcoming space where all are welcome. We are 50 yards from the monument and next to St. Andrew's Church in a relaxed, pedestrianised area.
The gallery also has an interesting selection of cards, curated by Gwen, featuring artists work that compliment Simon and Gwen's.
